We are a studio based in North Nottinghamshire, specialising in the conservation and restoration of easel paintings. We undertake a range of treatments from preventative measures to full aesthetic and structural treatments.

The current business was established in 2024 and was formerly known as Mark Roberts Conservation Ltd.

Sarah undertook an undergraduate degree in the History of Art with Material Studies at University College London and went on to train for her career in Conservation at the Courtauld Institute of Art, where she graduated in 2012.

Following her graduation she completed a six month internship at Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg (SRAL) in Maastricht, Netherlands. She also went on to work at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) in Mumbai, completing the final stages of conservation on The Sword of Damocles by Antoine Dubost.

Sarah has worked in the public sector as well as private studios. She joined Mark Roberts Conservation Ltd in 2014, before setting up the current business in 2024 with Jennifer Young.

Sarah gained ICON accreditation in 2017 and can be found on the conservation register. For more details on this and for some examples of her previous projects click here.

Jennifer Young

Senior Conservator — Director

Jennifer completed a BA (hons) in History in 2006 before gaining an MA with distinction from the University of Northumbria in Conservation of Easel Paintings in 2011.

After graduating, she spent five years working as a painting conservator in the Netherlands, at Studio Redivivus, Den Haag and Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg (SRAL), Maastricht, gaining great experience in seventeenth century Dutch art and twentieth century art.

In recent years, Jennifer worked for a private practice in Oxfordshire and then in Sheffield. She joined Mark Roberts Conservation Ltd in 2022, before co-founding the current business with Sarah Freeman in 2024.
